Choosing a Deadbolt Lock

Before you sleep at night you make sure all the doors are locked.  Your gates have padlocks and your doors are locked.  The next day you find out that a robber was able to enter the house of your neighbor stealing over half of their liquid valuables such as cash, jewelry, mobile phones, laptops and the like.  You know that these neighbors always keep their locks lock.  You wonder why and how on earth could a robber enter their house.

Now you start to fear.  What if you are the next in line.  You think of a preventive measure to avoid a future robbery at your place.  So go online and search 'how to avoid robbery'. And you end up on the suggestion to install a deadbolt lock. It was such a great idea, however you have no clue how to do it.

Do not worry, there are a lot of videos and tutorials online on how to install a deadbolt lock.  You can even hire someone to do the installation for you, at a fair price of course.  At least you know the installation is done right and you need not fear of being robbed due to malfunction because of wrong installation of a dead bolt lock.

Anyhow here are the steps in installing a Deadbolt lock, just in case you have no budget to hire someone to do it your your internet connection is bad and it can not play the uploaded video tutorials.  It only takes half a day to finish the job or even less if you have been doing it all your life.

For the tools, you will need drill bits, hole saw and a drill.  Of course, for the materials, you will obviously need a deadbolt lock.  You can easily find all the items in a hardware shop. Learn how to install deadbolt with these steps in http://www.ehow.com/how_6730338_install-deadbolt-lock-exterior-door.html.

First thing you need to do is find the reference template of the lock.  It usually comes with the deadlock bolt.  The template will guide you on where the lock should be installed.  The installation varies on the thickness and height your door. The Deadbolt is ideally half a ruler over your door knob.

When you've found the reference point, cut a hole through that point until the other side of the door using a drill.  You would then have to drill another hole through the edge of the door for the deadbolt.  You also would need to mortise an area of the door for the face plate.  After all this you may proceed in installing the dead bolt.  Lastly, like a doorknob, you have to install the strike plate.  That is about how simple it is.
